LGBTQ+

Duiske College was awarded the Belong To LGBTQ+ Quality Mark in March 2025, recognising its commitment to encouraging an inclusive and supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students. Belong To is Ireland’s national LGBTQ+ youth organisation and it acknowledges schools that have undertaken an 18-month journey to embed LGBTQ+ inclusion across their school and wider communities, policies and practices.

The LGBTQ+ Quality Mark initiative involves a comprehensive approach to creating safe and supportive school environments. Participating schools implement evidence-based actions across key areas, including staff training, inclusive curriculum development and the establishment of policies that promote diversity and respect. A LGBTQ+ friends and allies lunchtime club was established. The programme also encourages collaboration with parents, community organisations and local LGBTQ+ youth groups to enhance inclusivity.

Duiske College’s achievement places it among 44 schools and education centres across Ireland who are recognised for their dedication to LGBTQ+ inclusion. At a celebratory event held at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire, over 350 staff and students gathered to receive their awards. The ceremony, hosted by social media personality James Kavanagh, highlighted the collective efforts of schools in creating environments where all students feel safe and supported.

Duiske College’s recognition with the LGBTQ+ Quality Mark underscores its commitment to inclusivity and the well-being of all its students. This achievement reflects the school’s dedication to creating a culture of respect, fairness and honesty, aligning with its mission to provide a caring and inclusive educational environment.

Code of Behaviour

Duiske College prides itself on the quality of relationships between students and staff. Within this context Duiske College’s first instinct is to praise and reward students who reach the positive behaviour standards we wish for.

An important part of the school’s Code of Behaviour is the effort made to acknowledge the good behaviour of our students Primarily, the individual teacher praises and affirms good behaviour and constantly liaises with Class Teachers, School Management and the Student Support Team to appropriately reward and highlight incidents of good behaviour.
